Paragon Purpose Redux
Paragon Purpose Redux
The Paragon is my attempt to do what few others are interested in-provoking thought-real thought. Thought that does not pollute, that does not give audience to buzzwords, bandwagons, or dare I say it…politically correct regurgitations.
What I think doesn’t really matter to anyone in the grand scheme of things, if I myself do not know why I believe the things I believe. And you are no different!
Through The Paragon, I hope to expose the connections between you and the news. That is to say, I want you to see how the news affects you the individual and in some cases how it doesn’t. The Paragon is meant to be a filter that distinguishes what we are truly about versus what “they” want us to believe we’re about.

The Right to Die: When is a Child Old Enough to Give Consent?
21 Nov 06:00
On November 11, a 13-year-old girl from the United Kingdom successfully battled a hospital decision that would have forced her into having a potentially life-saving heart transplant. Should she really have had the right to make this decision? For when we consider the developmental, cognitive, and emotional disruptions that take place in the mind and the heart of a child in crisis, the decision to die seems eminently flawed when left solely in such young hands.

Information, Please! (Classic Broadcast: 1939)Special Guests: Writers Jan Struther & Louis Bromfield
21 Nov 05:05
Click here to begin the broadcast. Information, Please! was one of the most popular, and literate, shows on American radio, airing from 1938-1948 and running briefly as a TV show in the early 1950s. Its format was novel: instead of quizzing contestants from the general public, listeners submitted questions to quiz the experts, and if they stumped the resident eggheads, they won money and (for many years) a set of Encyclopaedia Britannica. Its master of ceremonies was the warm and witty Clifton Fadiman, literary editor of the New Yorker magazine and a longtime member of Britannica's Board of Editors. The Britannica Blog is proud to highlight these broadcasts. So, "Wake Up!"---as the show's announcer would say at the start of each broadcast. "It's Time to Stump the Experts!"
Video Art of the Week: Greta Garbos Lost Screen Test
20 Nov 17:00
The Britannica Blog is proud to announce that Videoart.net, the "underground video artists network," will be highlighting here one film each week from its outstanding collection of contemporary short videos by current filmmakers and artists. Some background on today's feature: Actor/Director bio: "Ty Jeffries is an actor/composer/lyricist/writer/singer. His chosen interface is to perform as a woman." Filmmaker's description of film: "In 1949 movie star Greta Garbo was going to make a comeback. She tested out with four cameramen ostensibly to see how they would photograph her. But it was really to see how photogenic she was after eight years away from the screen. The money men pulled out, and she never made another film. This is my interpretation of one of her final screen tests." For full-screen viewing of film: roll mouse over video and click on the small black square to the right of the time counter.
